Nature has gifted Nepal with 2.27% of the world water resources, about 818,500 Ha of total water surface area, about 6,000 rivers and known as is the second richest country in in the world water resources.But the situation of the country is quiet different.People are facing excessive load shading and have to pay expensive electric charges.
It Is estimated that 83,000 MW,electricity can be generated from the entire water sources in Nepal but half of it about 40,000 MW is considered to be technically and economically applicable. However,nearly 685 MW has been produced till now.
Recently qatar is interested to work in hydroelectricity in Nepal. According to Setopati.net a meeting was held NCC building in Jamal between Qatar's Ambassador to Nepal Yousuf Mohammad Ahmed Mommad Al-hail and office-bearers of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) in which Qatar envoy expressed his interest to invest in Nepal's hydropower projects.
During the meeting , issues related to various areas of trade between two countries were discussed. Talking to Setopati, Chairman of NCC Rajeshkaji Shrestha said that Qatar has shown its interest to invest in hydropower projects in Nepal. Shrestha further said that Qatar is preparing to send a company to Nepal for holding discussions to invest in hydroelectricity.
Qatar has been one of the destinations for Nepali migrant workers for foreign employment.
